My name is Michael Conlin, and I’m a Junior Biology major. I
just finished up my Chemistry minor at the end of last year, and I’m still
recovering from two back-to-back semesters of Organic Chemistry. One of my
favorite classes here at UNC has been English 122: Introduction to American
Literature, which I took during my freshman year. I’m hoping that this class
will expand on the knowledge base that I got from 122 and hopefully delve
deeper into the same kind of material. Based on how much I enjoyed 122, I can
say that I’m thoroughly excited with this course thus far. This semester I
enrolled in the peer tutoring program, EDUC 399. It’s been a unique experience.
Although I’ve only done training so far, I have really liked the program. I
signed up to help people out with BIOL 101, but during my interview for the
program, I was informed that we’re stretched fairly thin, and that I would have
to tutor basically any class I had taken (including Calculus which was a horror
story GPA-wise), especially since I have a lot of math and science under my
belt and those are in relatively high demand. I waste most of my spare time by
playing videogames and watching TV. I am an avid viewer of the Jerry Springer
show which is the best television show of all time. I also enjoy playing baseball and am on a club baseball team with my friend Richard F. Lowden, who is also in this class. Although I am much better than him at the sport, he still surprises me with his Lowden Luck once or twice a game.
