My name is Ryan Hurd and I am from
Winston-Salem. Winston-Salem, for those
who do not know, was once the tobacco capital of the world, but in recent years
we have shifted most means of production towards fast food and, somewhat obviously, health care. My chief
interests in life include music and entertainment in general, so naturally I am
an Econ major. As far as my favorite pastimes
go, I spend several hours watching really bad TV, like the History
Channel. I cannot stand Pawn Stars
though. My economics training makes me
furious when I see a guy sell something like Jimi Hendrix’s guitar that has been
in his family for roughly two hundred years for five dollars (if that is
historically inaccurate remember that I watch the History Channel).
Currently I am a second semester
junior at this university. Over that
period of time I have learned a few things about classes here, the most important
of them being to take a course whose material you believe you will be interested
at some point, even if you begin the class deficient in knowledge of the
subject (other rules include: never use contractions in a writing assignment with
a length requirement, the university schedules CCI printers for lengthy maintenance
based upon your due dates, etc.). For
that reason I settled on English 128 after trying out a few other English
courses. I look forward to the readings and
hope by semester’s end to be knowledgeable about an area of literature I have always
enjoyed.
